Description:

It Happens to Boys

Male abuse survivors have great difficulty sharing their feelings with others, suppressed feelings often surface as rage.  The goal this presentation is to educate the audience about the emotional damage done to boys who were abused.  To discuss what the riggers look and feel like and to teach emotional regulation exercises to behavioral health practitioners so they can teach their clients.

Educational Goals:

The workshop will explore how emotions are suppressed by male survivors due to the early training they received about the definition of being " A Man"  A discussion of the origin of shameful feelings.  Education about triggers releasing painful body memories of the past.  Teaching methods of reducing anxiety, emotional regulation and mindful meditation.

Educational Objectives:

As a result of this workshop participants will be able to identify three triggers that can create emotional acting out.

As a result of this workshop participants will be able to teach a mindful loving kindness meditation.

As a result of this workshop participants will be able to describe how mindfulness and breathing helps to regulate emotions.

Robert and Daniel will share their personal stories of survival and recovery.
